Part 1: The Fundamentals of Travel Photography

Get ready before you even pack your bags. Learn how to research your destination, plan your shots, and master the essentials of gear and camera settings. Explore techniques for photographing architecture, cityscapes, landscapes, and even local details. Gain confidence in approaching people and capturing their stories, and discover how to use light—day or night—to tell a captivating visual narrative.
Part 2: Chinatown, New York City
Put your skills to work in Chinatown, one of Manhattan’s most historic and visually rich neighborhoods. Practice the techniques you learned in Part 1 as you photograph vibrant streets, intricate signage, bustling markets, and iconic architecture. Use light, composition, and storytelling to capture the essence of this dynamic urban environment. Observe the vibrant culinary culture through the lens, focusing on colorful food displays and the character of restaurant exteriors. Your instructor will guide you, answer questions, and help refine your approach, ensuring you leave with a deeper understanding of travel photography and a collection of unique images.
